I can't believe I'm sitting here writing this post after ten years - even though, I have to admit, it hasn't been like ten years of activity. It's been more like ten years of ups and downs, considering quitting (because of something I can't really speak of outside of my moots circle), then getting mad at myself for even considering that, planning a redesign, a grand style comeback with multi language voicebanks... And then COVID happened, and didn't have a moment home alone to finish said projects. I've always had a love/hate relationship with my UTAU work, I lack confidence like with almost any other hobby I have - but ten years is still something special. It feels weird that the UTAU some of you are seeing for the first time is actually a ten year old UTAU with no proof of existence besides a few covers on Soundcloud and a wiki page (but hey! it still has a working DL link!). I still regret my choice to delete my channel two years ago, so for her tenth anniversary I’m kinda making up for it and decided to rebuild my channel. I saved my old videos, so that a Rewind Project might happen, and I found a very old archive with covers I didn't even remember making. Surprisingly, some of them are probably the best I ever did.
——-- about the "reboot" Part of me thought that my work needed a reboot after some events, and lore was the first to be retouched, mostly because she had connections to characters owned by people I cut ties with. Then came the redesign. I think Glas’ OG design fit her voice better than the new one where she looks more mature (and that's why I made some adjustments to her age and created the whole “she went back to the future in 2019, but then decided to come back again to our era”, so that it could reflect reality) but it still was something I felt I needed to do, probably like some sort of growth/development. The same thing happened to Cel, since he suffered from the same issue. And of course, being ten years older myself, it means that I have access to better equipment and I can make better quality covers. For instance, when in 2020 I covered “Tell Your World” with a MMD video (the laptop I had at the time couldn’t even let me play the video in real time from MMD without lagging, nor load the raycast shader, and so on. It almost makes me cry that my new computer renders MMD videos in 4k as the default setting. And since I have a wonderful official model (not based on a creator like Tda/Sour/YYB etc, it’s based on her art) I want to have fun with it! —— About this anniversary and the chosen covers For this anniversary I decided to make two covers, my first and last one. Technically speaking “Hello/How are you” wasn’t Glas’ first upload but her release song, and it felt it made more sense. And Tell Your World well, is THE anniversary song, it needed to be redone with a proper “concept video” with references that only people who have been here from the start will get. The stages, the flower in her Love Live Cyber dress, nothing is there by mere chance, not even the fact she’s wearing a Love Live outfit is (I used to have Honoka as FC for Glas). That’s why I still used the recolour in the first scene. I feel like the whole theme behind this anniversary is "shifting/drifting/transitioning"after all, since I never got to introduce her post-reboot. I’m really proud of the Hello/How Are You video, it’s quite simple, with morning lights in a comfy room to reflect the song’s mood, surrounded by blue sparkles - her younger self’s image colour. The 2014 video was just her png on a white screen but at the time WinMovieMaker was the best I could do with my cheap old desktop computer, so that’s a HUGE upgrade. —— about future plans I’d love to say that new voicebanks are planned or in progress but for now I will focus on releasing the unfinished CVVC (it’s not that it’s unfinished, it had two complete pitches, it’s just not what I planned: a powerscale and some more extra samples) after some more testing. If things go as planned I will probably work on more voicebanks and experiment with OpenUTAU and DiffSinger, which I didn't get to try yet. For the time being you can download Glas CV voicebank from the download section. Let's keep making beautiful sounds, and let them echo through the years. aoki
